well, I just got back from Kurrajong, but a also race most of the WSMTB races and some of the NSWMTB's

yeah you could use that but oxy is hard to do. if he's had plenty of experience with it he could do it.

id say just start with a few mild steel jobbies that you dont intend on riding first, cause there is a million things you wont tink of at first like disc clearance, alliging the disc tabs, having tyre/chain device/chain/crank clearance, making the lowest gear work etc etc. im still comin across problems every new frame i do.
but you'll need an angle grinder and a few files, drills, a mig or tig welder and a basic jig, a few old steel frames for headtubes/seat tubes/BB shells and the program 'tube mitre' from the internet. and a lot of patience.

i have my drop outs lazer cut and headtubes and bb's machined at a local engineering shop. You gonna need a few jigs to get it mint. Maybe start with reading most of the homemade bikes forum.

hey mate, the hardest thing for me is doing the rear end. upper and lower chain stays with brake mounts and plenty of clearance for chain rings crank and tyres. Then getting it short enough to suit DJ. The steel will cost you around $200 depending on what you get. You will also need a tig welder to burn em up. Have fun....
